Electrical cables in Bangkok

So the news is saying those crazy clutters of electrical cables in Bangkok are going be moved to underground.

Electric cabals in Bangkok

When I first came to Bangkok, those cables all over the place were the biggest cultural shock for me.

As I settled in the city, I got used to and most interestingly started to accept it. Having those electrical cables in my life is a part of my new zen - ไม่เป็นไร (it doesn’t matter).

I was bothered by my perfectionism that was apparently bothering some other people, especially at work too. I am glad that I am more tolerant to accept those imperfections around me. I suppose that is probably why some foreigners online were also saying no keep the wires because those wires have been an iconic part of their Thailand experience.

Whereas at the same time, those comments have triggered some unpleasantness from Thai people. They expressed that Thai people do not exist to entertain foreigners. They deserve better living standards.

I guess many people didn’t mean it, but it totally could be understood that way. I would definitely not say that, as I tend to identify myself as a foreigner and I generally leave the matters to the local people. While I might be nostalgic for those wires, I am more happy to see that Thailand develops into a better state.

It again reminds me to be cautious when making comments. While it is important to please and prioritise ourselves, it is equally important to take other people’s feeling into consideration, especially when our gain is essentially on top of others' loss.

The wires will be gone, and I will probably forget about it soon after and not gonna miss it too much. I am happy that Thailand is growing to be a better place!
